Day two: Thursday June 13:† Today you will experience the Minnesota Quilt Show.† This is a judged, guild-show, professionally

presented. The vendors are by invitation only - and they know the good ones!† The venue is the DECC the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center, located right on the harbor. Step outside the convention center and enjoy Canal Park, watch the huge ships come and go from the port, see the areial lift bridge, visit the maritime visitor center and check out the newly renovated Omnimax Theater!† Itís been a fun day, but itís not done...letís go out on the water.† A pizza party cruise is planned for the group on board the Vista Fleet. This fun adventure takes us out in the harbor and† into Lake Superior.† See the big ships, the loading docks and the city view -†† this is a pretty city, but donít take my word on it-come see† for yourself!


Day three: Friday June 14.† Our Duluth experience isnít over yet.† A stop and tour of Glensheen Mansion, one of my favorite homes because it was designed by a woman - and they admit it!† See how this rich family, a pillar of the community,† lived and played in this family home.† We stop at the Casino for our lunch on our way home.

The Minnesota quilt show began in St. Paul in 1979.† It now rotates itís host city between St. Cloud and Duluth.† This annual show is† one of the premier quilting events in the U.S.A. and holds the title as the largest all-volunteer quilt show. The Minnesota show always has wonderful quilts, great vendors and a host of places to visit.† This year, Duluth is the host city, located on the worldís largest fresh water lake.† This location is always a hit with so many things to enjoy and entertain us!† What a great summer get-away!

 

Day one Thursday, June 11:† We start our adventure in Des Moines with pickups as requested along I80 - maybe† Ankeny, Boondocks, Albert Lea along with our usual pickup in Ames....We have a special† request quilt store - I love it when I get this kind of input!† This is a ďnewĒ store to this area after moving from her last location in Montana-letís welcome Reproductionsfabrics.com to MN! Yes this is an online source of cotton reproduction fabric for costuming and quilting with fabric from time periods 1775 to 1950, including the Civil War and Depression Eras.† And they are opening the doors for us!† Next we arrive in Duluth at our hotel in Canal Park. Our evening event will be a dinner cruise on the Vista Fleet.† We visit the

harbor and then out along the shores of Lake

Superior for a relaxing evening meal.

 

 

 

Text Box: Day two Friday, June 12: After a great breakfast at the hotel, you can choose to take our bus to the quilt show, take the hotel shuttle or walk the two blocks to the DECC convention center.  The day is yours to spend and plan.  Your choices also include many places and events right here in Canal Park.  The hotel has a shuttle and the area has a trolley that services the boutique stores,  the Irvin Haunted Ship, the Great Lakes Aquarium, Maritime Visitor Center with a listing of the ships arriving and departing.  In the evening you might want to walk the shores along the Lakewalk, Duluthís boardwalk, that begins in Canal Park behind our hotel. 
Day three Saturday, June 13:  Our day begins with a step on guide narrating the sights and attractions found in this busy harbor.  We begin our way home with a stop at Millie Js Quilt Shop in Anoka.  This store is featured in the Sampler  2014! After our catered meal at their retreat center, you will have time to shop in their full-service store and time to explore this fun area.  Expect to return to Des Moines early evening.
